Crismon High School Theater Company Presents Little Shop of Horrors May 1–3

The Crismon High School (CHS) Theater Company is growing into the spotlight with its upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors, running May 1–3. In just two short years, Crismon’s theater program has grown tremendously, with plans to expand even further next school year by offering courses in both stagecraft I and II and musical theater.
Art and theatre instructor Mr. Thorn is incredibly proud of the students involved in this production and the momentum the program has built. “We're doing four main stage productions a year now, and I just think it's really thrilling for everyone in the area to know that Crismon has some really killer kids that are doing some really killer theater,” he said. “I could not be more proud of how the program is growing by leaps and bounds. Drama for junior high, theater for high school—now we have stagecraft I and II for next year, and soon a musical theater course as well.”
Kyle M., who plays one of the Seymours in the musical, shared what makes the CHS Theater Company special to him: “My favorite part of the theater program is how inclusive everyone is. It doesn't matter your skill level. Everyone is like a big old family, and everyone just has fun.” Speaking about the impact of Mr. Thorn, Kyle added, “Without him, I think that our show would be not where it is today. He makes sure we give our best.” To encourage maximum student participation, each main role in the production has two student leads.
Genevieve G., one of the students cast as Audrey, found it hard to choose a favorite part of the experience. “Do I have to choose a favorite? I really love the music side. I love how everyone is really welcoming. If I'm having trouble with anything, I can just ask someone who I know is good at it. Everyone is so helpful.”
She also reflected on what makes Crismon’s theater program different: “Here we have time to work on what we know we're having trouble with. We can make mistakes and grow from them.” Kyle echoed the sentiment: “Everyone is all around having a good time.”
