Procedures for School Site Volunteers/Chaperones
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Queen Creek Unified School District. We are excited that you want to volunteer with us.
If you are a parent or legal guardian that wants to volunteer in your own child’s classroom, an online application, fingerprint clearance, and background check are not required.
If you are a parent or legal guardian participating in an overnight event or if you are a community member that wants to volunteer inside of the classroom, please follow the steps below.
What you need to be a volunteer:
- Apply online at QCUSD District Careers. Notify the school(s) as soon as you have submitted your application.
- Background check (QCUSD HR department will submit a background check).
- Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) fingerprint clearance. (HR will contact you with instructions once your application has been approved).
*After you submit your application online you must contact the school(s) office where you wish to volunteer. Volunteer applications cannot be processed without approval from the school office.
All volunteers and chaperones are required to get fingerprinted and consent to a background check. Please allow at least 4 to 6 weeks for fingerprint clearance and the background check to clear.
Field trip chaperones must be at least 21 years of age.
Once your background check is cleared, you will receive an email notification that you have been approved to volunteer. The school office will contact you regarding your approval.
*Volunteers must reapply and complete fingerprint background check every school year.
For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office or the QCUSD HR department for further assistance. Your dedication to volunteering is greatly appreciated!

What is a fingerprint background check?
The applicant has their fingerprints scanned at the registered organization Fieldprint. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) receives the applicant’s fingerprints from Fieldprint and runs a background check of Arizona criminal history, FBI criminal history, any Arizona warrants, and any Arizona Sex Offender registration. DPS sends the completed background check to QCUSD HR department for review.
How do I complete the fingerprint background check?
Once your application is approved by the school office, fingerprint background check instructions will be provided through the Human Resources Department with further guidance. This process is at no charge to the volunteers.
How long does it take to get approved to volunteer?
The overall process may take up to 6 weeks.
Background check: 3–5 days.
DPS background check: 4–6 weeks after the applicant completes fingerprinting.
DPS sends the applicant’s completed fingerprint background check results to HR. Following review, applicant and site administration receive a notification that they have been approved/denied to volunteer.
Can I improve the turnaround time to get cleared to volunteer?
Yes, you can expedite the clearance process by promptly notifying the school once you've submitted your online application in addition to completing the DPS fingerprint background check process as soon as possible.
Do I get a fingerprint card after I complete the fingerprint background check?
No, fingerprint background check results are sent directly to QCUSD HR. A fingerprint card is not required, however, if you already possess a fingerprint card, you do not need to complete the fingerprint background check, as it has been completed when your card was issued by DPS.
