Leadership is an important life skill for every student in the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD). Through the Leader in Me program, students are empowered to take charge of their learning, grow confidence, and develop essential life skills that prepare them as they continue their education and future careers.

The Leader in Me framework is based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. Leadership principles are integrated into daily classroom activities. This program encourages personal and academic growth, teaching students responsibility, organization, teamwork, and problem-solving. “At Queen Creek, we believe that leadership is for every child,” shared one QCUSD teacher. “Our students are taught to take charge of their own success by setting personal and academic goals, tracking their progress in student data notebooks, and taking accountability for their learning and behaviors.”

One key element of Leader in Me is project-based learning, which allows students to engage in hands-on, collaborative experiences. Schools host student-led conferences, allowing students to showcase their achievements and leadership skills. “Leadership is woven into every subject and classroom to enhance academic achievements,” explained another QCUSD teacher. “Students are part of interactive and collaborative learning experiences, critical thinking, and hands-on problem solving.”

“Being a leader means taking responsibility, listening to others, and also helping everyone succeed together,” the teacher added. By promoting a growth mindset, students are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and strive to improve.

Students recognize the impact of leadership in their daily lives. “Caring isn't just about doing nice things,” one student shared. “It's about making sure that people around us feel loved and important. I always try to be there for my friends because that’s what leaders do. They care. They listen, and they help others be their best.”

The Leader in Me program at QCUSD schools ensures that students succeed academically and develop the leadership skills needed for lifelong success. By instilling these values early, QCUSD aims to shape the leaders of tomorrow, equipping them with confidence, purpose, and a strong foundation for the future.
