Newell Barney College Prep (NBCP) had a great first few weeks of school due to its excellent staff, teachers, and students. NBCP utilizes hands-on learning throughout their courses and offers electives that focus on the STEM areas. Positive habits and experiences learned at NCBP will help students throughout their high school and college careers. Students jumped right in and have enjoyed working in labs with real-world scenarios, opportunities in band and orchestra, extracurricular activities, career exploration classes, and athletics.

“I feel like Newell Barney College Prep is helping me prepare for the future because it helps me choose careers that I can take through my Future Clarity class.” Stated Cole M. NBCP has courses built into each student's schedule that help them with college and career exploration and goal setting.

NBCP held its first assembly of the year this past Friday, which was put on by the student council. Leadership roles like this help students practice skills taught in the Leader In Me program that NBCP implements. "Our pep assembly is something we do every quarter," said Julian C., an 8th grade student and StuCo member. "I helped set up the dance and games; it was a lot of fun." Julian shared how events like this bring students together and create a sense of community early on in the school year.

"I like this school because of how inclusive it is," shared Ellie S., another 8th grader and StuCo member. "At bigger schools, it feels crowded and hard to find opportunities to have fun. Here, everyone is friendly, and it's easier to make friends."

Beyond assemblies and extracurricular events, students appreciate their teachers' enthusiasm and dedication. QCUSD is proud to employ exceptional staff to help each student succeed. Ellie shares how her Social Studies teacher, Mr. Felix, is “relatable” and makes learning enjoyable with his unique teaching style.

Another student, Jocelyn N., said that her favorite teacher is her Science teacher, Mrs. Perry, but it was a hard choice because Jocelyn appreciates all her teachers. Jocelyn also likes her science class because they’ve recently been doing activities with DNA, and it's “cool to figure out how everything works.”
