Celebrating a Milestone: How QCUSD Celebrated the 100th Day of School

As the school year progresses in Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD), there is one day that holds great significance to all – the 100th day of school. The 100th day of school is more than just a number; it is a day of celebration!

Numerous QCUSD schools celebrated the 100th day with fun and educational activities. Kindergarten classes at Gateway Polytechnic Academy had various activities including counting to 100, writing about 100 things they could eat (and then 100 of things they couldn’t eat), and coloring patterns and designs.

Kindergarten teacher Jennifer Goddard, expressed how the 100th day of school is a time to pause and celebrate all that they have learned throughout the school year so far.

“It's fun for the kids to see how much they have learned,” says Goddard. “It's also a great time to focus on the number 100. This is a perfect opportunity to build in and reinforce math concepts like skip counting. The 100th Day of School is a great milestone, too - we are more than midway through the school year.”

The most creative and popular way of celebrating the 100th day of school is dressing up for the occasion. Some school attendees came with shirts featuring the number “100”, and others added 100 items to their shirts (ribbons, cotton balls, stickers, etc.). A great majority of students and teachers came dressed up as elderly people. Donning oversized glasses, curlers, bathrobes, canes, hats, suspenders, pearls, and even spraying their hair gray to make them appear “old”.

“The kids love seeing their classmates dressed up,” says Goddard. “It's so fun to see them in ‘character’ during the day.”
