Highlights of the Second Quarter

The second quarter was marked by remarkable achievements and memorable events in the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD). These highlights not only showcased our diverse talents and successes but also strengthened a sense of community, setting the stage for continued success in the coming new year.

  • Desert Mountain Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
  • Faith Mather Sossaman Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
    • Faith Mather Sossaman Principal, Sherry Towns named Administrator of the Year by Arizona Health & Physical Education
    • Faith Mather Sossaman Teacher, Nancy Madriage, won the Fiesta Bowl Grant for $2,500
  • Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
    • Frances Brandon-Pickett Teacher, Renee Lemons, won the Fiesta Bowl Grant for $2,500
  • Gateway Polytechnic Academy
    • Lincoln, Becket, and Jaxon took first place in the first Running Club meet of the year
  • Jack Barnes Elementary
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
  • Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Katherine Mecham Barney student, Claire, won second place in the Town of Queen Creek Constitution Week contest
    • Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary ranked in the top ten of all elementary schools in the state of Arizona
  • Queen Creek Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • QCE counselor Stephanie French was nominated for the Rising Star Award
  • Schnepf Elementary
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Running Club students took first place for the third year in a row as the District Running Club Champions
  • Silver Valley Elementary
    • Eleanor Crane was awarded the Fiesta Bowl Grant for $2,500
  • Newell Barney Junior High
    • Newell Barney Junior High will transform into an accelerated college prep junior high school in the 2024–2025 school year
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
  • Queen Creek Junior High
    • Joshua Mattis was recognized by the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce as a nominee for Chamber Teacher of the Year
  • Crismon High
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
    • Wrestling won the EVC Championship
    • Strength Training Coach, Ben Brandau, is a National Coach of the Year Finalist from the National High School Strength Coaches Association
    • Ryland Jones was selected as the “Leader of Tomorrow Hometown Hero of Queen Creek”
    • Lizzy and Ally Small, were awarded a Congressional Medal from Congressman Biggs
  • Eastmark High
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Took part in Mesa 2050 General Plan Immersive Youth eXperience
    • Marching band won first place in their division at the Band Day competition
    • Payton is the State Champion Swimmer for 50M and 100M freestyle
  • Queen Creek High
    • Participated in the Town of Queen Creek’s Holiday Festival Parade
    • Received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Three teachers were selected for ASU’s STEM Acceleration Project
    • Christopher Hepworth won the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award
    • Choir performed with the ASU’s Vocal Connection
    • Broadcast students delivered a weather report for Channel 12 News
    • Track and field Coach, Coach Shaun Hardt, won Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
    • Dr. Wolfe was recognized as the Principal of the Month by Grand Canyon University
  • District-Wide
    • Three QCUSD students became finalists for the National Merit Scholarship (Tim L., Eli R., and Sage G.)
    • QCUSD received an A-rating from the Department of Education
    • Since July 2023, QCUSD has been awarded approximately $200,000 worth of grant funding
    • Assistant Superintendent, Casey Eagleburger, received the Coach Jesse Parker Legacy Award, for his dedication to education
