A Day of Remembrance, How SES Honored First Responders on the Anniversary of 9/11
Schnepf Elementary School (SES) hosted a First Responder Breakfast to honor police officers, firefighters, and other emergency responders who serve the Queen Creek community. Students at SES were able to interact with first responders and show appreciation through thank you cards and posters while sharing breakfast together.
"The kids love it. They asked so many questions, and they all seemed very excited since I first walked in," said Michael Hanson, a Queen Creek Police Department Officer. Hanson expressed how grateful he was for receiving words of appreciation from students at the breakfast. "It's awesome that they show so much support," he added.
One SES student, Jaycie J., brought her grandmother who is a fire department engineer to the event. Jaycie was proud to have her grandmother with her and noted, "I'm really happy. It's fun to see her.” She pointed out the importance of recognizing first responders, stating, "They always deserve it because they're risking their lives for us, and they always come to help."
A Gilbert Police Department Officer was also in attendance with his kids. "It means the world because I have two kids here. I know they look up to me, and I just want to make them proud," he remarked. The officer shared how events such as this are helpful to first responders because they create connections and strengthen respect with the younger generations.
At QCUSD, our success is built on the strength of our community. Honoring first responders and giving back to those who support us is our way of expressing gratitude for your support in continuing to choose QCUSD.
