The lessons learned in Queen Creek Unified School District’s (QCUSD) career and technical education (CTE) programs extend far beyond graduation. With 32 CTE programs across the district, students have the opportunity to explore career pathways, develop industry-ready skills, and gain real-world experience that prepares them for college, careers, and life after high school.
For Crismon High School graduates Isabella M. and Kamea M., DECA played a pivotal role in shaping their futures.
While at Crismon High School, both students immersed themselves in DECA’s competitions, leadership opportunities and networking experiences, allowing them to apply classroom learning in real business scenarios while building confidence and professional skills.
For Isabella, DECA reaffirmed her career aspirations.
“DECA has helped me realize that this is exactly what I want to do,” she said. “It has made me more excited and better prepared for everything I want to achieve. It has given me the skills I need to succeed and helped me get where I want to be.”
Throughout her time in the program, Isabella strengthened her public speaking, communication, and problem-solving skills while working toward her goal of one day owning her own business.
Kamea said DECA expanded her vision of what was possible after high school.
“DECA has shown me how many opportunities are out there and made me want to explore everything the world has to offer,” Kamea said.
Reflecting on her experience, she encourages current and future students to take advantage of every opportunity available.
“I’ve learned to always say yes to opportunities,” Kamea said. “The more you’re willing to try, the more you’ll learn.”
From leadership development and competitive events to real-world business experiences, QCUSD’s CTE programs help students discover their passions and prepare for successful futures. For alumni like Isabella and Kamea, DECA was the foundation for the confidence, skills, and ambition they carry into the next chapter of their lives.
