Cardinals Take the Field: A Morning of Fun and Fitness at Jack Barnes Elementary

Arizona Cardinals mascot meeting coach and JBE students

Jack Barnes Elementary (JBE) welcomed the Arizona Cardinals for a morning of fun, fitness, and inspiration. The event, held on the school’s campus, featured the Cardinals’ mascot Big Red, current team players, and cheerleaders. Together, they engaged students in physical activity and helped them learn about the importance of teamwork and staying active.

The event kicked off with an introduction from the Cardinals representatives, including the cheerleaders, who shared their day jobs and how they balance their roles as ambassadors for the team.

Students then warmed up before rotating through five interactive stations, each designed to teach them a skill or aspect of football. Activities ranged from kicking and catching to agility drills. Each student who participated received valuable guidance and a keepsake t-shirt.

Cardinals kicker, Chad Ryland, who took time to speak with students and teach them how to kick a football, emphasized the importance of connecting with the community. “Events like this are super important because it allows kids to connect with people in the organization,” he explained. “At the end of the day, it’s about being outside, having fun, staying active, and learning the game of football.”

The students were equally enthusiastic. Riker, a third grader, shared, “My favorite thing was doing the kicking and the field goal.” His classmate Zach agreed, saying, “My favorite thing was doing the catching. It’s just so much fun.”

By hosting events that inspire students to stay active and think about teamwork, QCUSD ensures children are prepared for success both inside and outside the classroom. The Cardinals’ visit not only brought joy to JBE, but also reinforced the district’s values of community partnership and lifelong learning.
