As Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month begins, Eastmark High School (EHS) is proud to spotlight its thriving HOSA – Future Health Professionals program, a key component of the Nursing Services CTE pathway. Through hands-on learning, competition, and leadership opportunities, HOSA helps students explore healthcare careers while building the skills they need for success beyond high school.

Senior Ashley, a second-year HOSA member in the Nursing Services program, said her interest in healthcare started at home. “My family, they’re all health care professionals, and I’ve always had a passion for health care,” she shared. Through HOSA and CTE, Ashley has gained valuable real-world experience. “It’s taught me how to look at things differently… I’ve learned really good career soft skills, like communicating and learning how to work with people, and I’ve gotten used to the environment of health care and what it’s actually like working in a real health care facility.”

Ashley also reflected on a standout moment, competing at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Tennessee. “When my partner and I found out that we made it onto the second round, we were screaming and so excited,” she said. “You’re competing with people from all over the world who are just as passionate about health care.”

For senior Chidera, the program has been transformative. “Through HOSA, I’ve definitely gained the skill of public speaking,” Chidera explained. “It’s helped me understand how to view somebody in a holistic way.” Winning first place at the state competition was a proud moment, reinforcing her goal of pursuing pre-med at the University of Arizona and eventually becoming an allergist.

Senior Nina echoed similar sentiments, sharing that HOSA helped her grow professionally and personally. “I’ve learned how to present myself professionally, especially through competitions,” she said. Making it to state was a confidence boost and confirmed her plans to pursue a pre-med track toward becoming a pediatrician.

All three students agree: CTE and HOSA open doors. As Ashley put it, “CTE has helped me feel more prepared going into college and my career in the future.” During CTE Month and beyond, EHS’s HOSA program continues to empower students to explore, grow, and lead in healthcare.
