Leadership, Service, and Growth: The Role of JROTC at Queen Creek High School
The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program at Queen Creek High School (QCHS) provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, build camaraderie, and prepare for military and civilian careers.
As part of the program, students like Caden C., a senior and Battalion XO, experience more than just military training. “JROTC is a leadership development course. It’s like going into student council, where we help the community, develop leaders, and improve skills,” he explained.
For Caden, the program has been transformative, helping him overcome his shyness and become more confident. “It’s a family,” he said. “I came in as a timid freshman, but over time, ROTC helped me build bonds and friendships.”
These relationships go beyond school walls, as the program involves community service projects such as trash pickups and veteran assistance which helps students like Caden give back while working on their leadership and teamwork skills.
JROTC is not just for those pursuing a military career. As Anthony C., a junior shared, “The leadership skills I’ve learned are invaluable. Whether I enlist in the military or go to college, Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) gives me a foundation that will help me succeed.”
Students like Sarah H., who joined JROTC because of her brother’s involvement, believe the program offers something unique: “The experience and the family,” she said. For anyone entering high school, JROTC provides an invaluable opportunity to grow, both personally and professionally, all while contributing to the community you reside in.
