Newell Barney College Prep’s Seventh Grade Science Camp Trip

Seventh graders at Newell Barney College Prep (NBCP) attended science camp last week and immersed themselves in hands-on learning experiences. The camp explored various areas of science, from environmental to physical, and expanded on what they have been learning in the classroom. Seventh graders participated in team-building activities in nature and learned about their surroundings along the way.
Student, Adam D., described several of his favorite nature-themed activities. “We learned how to be safe with fire, how to use campfires, and we built shelters for action figures using our surroundings,” he shared.
Adam also mentioned the concepts he had been learning at NBCP connected to science camp topics. "I also learned more about energy—how things have potential energy before they move, and when they do, it turns into kinetic energy.”
Brooklyn M., another student at camp, found learning about nature and its adaptive qualities the most interesting part of science camp. “One of my favorite activities was hiking, where we saw how trees adapt to their environment. We learned about juniper and ponderosa pine trees and how to tell their age by counting the rings inside them.”
The camp not only provided educational experiences but also opportunities to make connections with peers and teachers. Many activities at the camp required students to be in groups, which helped build on leadership and teamwork.
Kevin Aikins, principal of NBCP, shared how rewarding the trip was for the students, noting that while they returned from science camp exhausted, they were also grateful for the enriching experience.
