Last year, Queen Creek community members voted to pass the QCUSD Override Renewal. With the passing of the ballot measure, Eastmark High School launched a new program, the Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NJROTC). This program, led by Jeff King, has allowed students to develop leadership and life skills. NJROTC values community service and giving back to the community that supports them.
When asked why she chose to join the program, eighth-grader Corbyn C. said she had personal ties. “My brother actually participated in Queen Creek High School, and it looked very interesting to me. I wanted to try as well.”
Corbyn added that joining this program has helped her develop valuable skills. “I have learned leadership skills. It’s more about communicating with other people and letting them know that their opinion matters. We connect and put our ideas together.”
Drill team leader Raiden P. described that much of what JROTC does centers on community service. “For service projects, we took our color guard and our officers down to Gate Park this recent Veterans Day to honor the veterans of our nation. We helped set up. We did flag folding there, too, and throughout the community, we’ve done many things like trash cleanups and other projects like that.”
“I think people should join ROTC because it helps you become a better U.S. citizen. It teaches you leadership values,” said Raiden P., reflecting on why JROTC is an important course offered at Eastmark High School. This program helps students grow into well-rounded community members.
As Corbyn C. reflects on her experience at Eastmark High School, she shares how the campus offers countless opportunities to get involved. “A student should come to Eastmark because it is a great school. There are a bunch of programs and clubs to join, and it opens up a wide variety of things for you to do,” she explained.
Programs like NJROTC are just one example of the enriching pathways available to students. Families interested in joining the Eastmark community are encouraged to begin the enrollment process and explore all that EHS has to offer.
