The Family Resource Center (FRC) recently hosted its annual International Day, a celebration honoring the many cultures represented within Queen Creek Unified School District’s Adult Education program. Superintendent Dr. Perry Berry, Associate Superintendent Dr. Erica Copeland, and members of the QCUSD governing board joined adult students, families, and staff for the event.
International Day offers adult education students the opportunity to share a piece of their heritage with others. Participants proudly showcased traditional clothing and prepared dishes from their home countries, creating an atmosphere filled with connection and gratitude. This year, the FRC is teaching adult students from 26 countries, each bringing unique experiences to the learning community.
FRC Director Cort Monroe shared that the purpose of International Day goes far beyond the celebration itself. “The goal of International Day is to further appreciation for and learning about different cultures,” he said. “A highlight of the program for me is the sense of community and friendships that our students in all of our classes, no matter the level, develop with each other and with our teachers.”
The event also highlighted the essential services and opportunities offered through QCUSD’s Adult Education program. The FRC provides several classes for adults looking to strengthen their skills. Some adult students attend to build their math and English language arts skills in preparation for GED testing, while others focus on improving English proficiency. The program also offers integrated education and training classes, which blend language learning with workforce skills in areas such as supply chain & logistics, customer service and sales, and entrepreneurship. These opportunities support adult students in obtaining employment or advancing in their current careers.
These classes open doors for adult students to gain employment or advance in their current careers—another powerful example of how the Family Resource Center continues to support and uplift the Queen Creek community.
