Forty-one talented students from every elementary and junior high campus across Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) came together to compete in the 2026 QCUSD district spelling bee. The annual event celebrated students’ strong vocabulary skills, confidence, and perseverance as they tackled increasingly challenging words in front of judges, peers, and families.
After several intense rounds, three students rose to the top. Earning third place was Randz Gabriel Roxas, a seventh-grade student from Eastmark High School, who impressed the audience with his focus and consistency. Taking second place was Cecily Wanamaker, an eighth-grade student from Crismon High School, who demonstrated poise and a deep understanding of complex word patterns. Claiming first place for the second year in a row was Jake Vlahos Mendoza, a sixth-grade student from Faith Mather Sossaman Elementary, who secured the championship by correctly spelling the final word, volition.
The competition highlighted not only individual achievement, but also the strong academic support and encouragement provided by QCUSD schools and staff. Events like the district spelling bee promote a love of learning and help students build confidence in public speaking and critical thinking.
These three outstanding spellers will advance to represent QCUSD at the Maricopa Region 6 Spelling Bee on February 12. QCUSD is proud to host the regional competition at the Performing Arts Center, where students from across the region will come together to continue celebrating academic excellence.
