Mountain Trail Academy Opens Its Doors with Celebration and Community Support

Mountain Trail Academy ribbon cutting

Mountain Trail Academy (MTA) officially welcomed students and staff this week for the first day of school. As a STEAM-focused pre-k–6th grade campus designed with collaborative learning spaces, MTA marks a significant milestone for the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD).

In the days leading up to the first day of school, final preparations were completed and the district hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of its newest elementary school. The celebration honored the vision, effort, and collaboration that brought Mountain Trail Academy to life.

To kick off the ceremony, MTA welcomed Eastmark High School’s band and cheer teams, who energized the crowd, along with the Queen Creek High School JROTC, who led the presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The event drew several distinguished guests, including Kate Robinson from Congressman Andy Biggs’ office, Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley, and Apache Junction City Manager Bryant Powell.

Superintendent Dr. Perry Berry spoke proudly about the significance of the new school, stating, “Mountain Trail Academy is not just a new school—it’s a new standard. A place where innovation meets opportunity, and I want to thank our board, staff, state, and all construction partners for making this dream a reality.”

The success of this project was made possible through the support of several key partners. QCUSD extends its deepest appreciation to the School Facilities Division, SPS+ Architects, McCarthy Building Companies, Inventionland Education, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, the QCUSD Governing Board, and everyone behind the scenes who contributed to the school’s completion.

In her remarks during the ceremony, MTA Principal Erin Pillsbury reflected on the school’s mission: “Today isn’t just a ribbon cutting, it’s a promise. A promise that this school will be a place where children feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow.”

And with that promise, she proudly welcomed the community with these words: “Welcome to Mountain Trail Academy!”
