Construction FAQ

What is the scope of bond project work at each site?

  • Desert Mountain Elementary - six classroom addition and kitchen renovation.

  • Queen Creek Middle School - sixteen-classroom addition and a new administration building. The school will be reoriented to face old Ellsworth Rd., which is being redesigned and constructed by the Town of Queen Creek. The vision is to give the school a new modern look and design. 

  • Queen Creek High School - expanded by twenty classrooms in a two-story addition, additional parking spaces, and increasing the dining capacity of the cafeteria.

When will construction start and when will it end?

  • Desert Mountain Elementary should start the end of January 2016.
  • Queen Creek Middle School renovations will begin over winter break.
  • Queen Creek High School should start the end of January 2016.

Will workers be fingerprinted and have background checks when working on school property?

Yes, all construction employees will be fingerprinted and background checked, prior to the start of construction.

How will we separate workers from students?

There will be construction fencing and barricades to keep the children safely away from construction zones.

What if a worker tries to interact with students?

The student needs to report it to the office immediately. There should be no communication with the worker at all unless there is an emergency situation. Prior to the start of construction, all construction personnel will have been directed to not communicate with any students on campus.

Will parent pickup and drop off be affected by the construction zones?

  • Desert Mountain Elementary will be in contact with parents/guardians in January 2016 with a map outlining the pickup/drop off plan.
  • Queen Creek Middle School parent pick up is not affected.
  • Queen Creek High School is not affected.

Will the noise impact my child’s learning?

We will strive to keep noise at a minimum during instruction time at all school sites.

Where are the six classrooms being built at Desert Mountain Elementary?

The six-classroom addition will be built where the portable/garden is currently located.

Who is the principal at the soon to be renovated Queen Creek Middle School and when will they start?

Joseph McKnight is the new principal and will officially start July 1, 2016; however, he is currently becoming more familiar with the district and community by working with all the staff and participating in key meetings.

How do I register my child for school?

If you are new to our area or would like your child to attend one of our schools, simply visit the school office that your child would attend. We will be happy to help you fill out the necessary paperwork for registration. When you come, please be sure to bring the following documents with you:

  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Your child’s immunization records
  • Proof of residency (in the form of a utility bill)
  • Any records from your child’s previous school

    What time does school start and end?

    Elementary schools: Monday through Friday from 8:10 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
    Kindergarten: Monday through Friday from 8:10 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
    Middle school: Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m.–3:35 p.m.
    High school: Monday through Friday from 7:25 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

    How much do meals cost?

    Our meal prices vary by grade level. Please visit our Child Nutrition page for current prices. We also offer free and reduced-price meals to students and families who qualify. If you believe your family qualifies for this service, please complete the forms found on our Child Nutrition page.

    How do I donate funds to receive a tax credit?

    All you need to do is download and print the form found on our Tax Credit page. Fill it out, and bring it in to the school office. It’s that easy!

    What do I do if my child is late to school?

    Tardies affect the entire class, so we appreciate all students who get to school on time. If your child must be late, we ask him or her to stop by the office and get a pass before heading to class.

    My child needs to be absent. How do I proceed?

    If you know your child must be absent, please send a note to your child’s teacher explaining the circumstances and dates of the absence. We will try our best to get any work together that your child might miss. If your child is sick, please call the office the morning of the absence, and let us know where your child is. Not only do we want to make sure your child is safe, we also want to mark your child as “excused.” If we do not receive a call or note explaining the absence, we will record it as “unexcused.”

    Is transportation available?

    Yes! Queen Creek School District does provide busing for students. For information on bus rules, regulations, and routes, visit our Transportation page.

    What are the early release times for each school site and kindergarten?

    Elementary school: Monday through Friday from 8:10 a.m.–12:20 p.m.
    Kindergarten: Monday through Friday from 8:10 a.m.–12:20 p.m.
    Middle school: Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m.–1:05 p.m.
    High school: Monday through Friday from 7:25 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
