Queen Creek Elementary hosted a Grandparents Day on Friday, September 5 welcoming families to campus for a morning of connection and celebration. The event brought grandparents into classrooms and the cafeteria to share breakfast, meet teachers, and see firsthand what their grandchildren are learning.
For the grandparents, it was a chance to step away from their normal routines and spend time with loved ones. “I took the morning off from work. Meetings happen every week, but these moments only happen once, and that is why they are so important,” said grandparent Sandy D. “Where am I going to get another five year old kindergarten breakfast with Nana Day?”
Another grandparent, Sheryl C., explained that she rearranged her schedule to attend. “I wasn’t going to miss it no matter what. I had planned appointments around it,” she said.
Families also shared what they value about Queen Creek Elementary and their hopes for the future. “This is our first year, so we are excited about it with her being in kindergarten,” One grandparent said. “She loves her teacher. She loves the school.” When asked what she hopes her granddaughter remembers most, she added, “How much she was loved.”
Grandparents emphasized the importance of education as well. “I get excited when kids discover the world of education and being able to read books,” Sheryl C. said. “That opens the doors for everything.”
For Mary Harris, another grandparent in attendance, the day was about family and school working together. “It is amazing just to be able to come to her school and for her to show me around,” she said. “Every day is an adventure with her. Coming home with her smiling is great.”
Students were just as enthusiastic, sharing how much they enjoy their teachers, learning letters, and of course, recess.
Grandparents Day showed the value of family involvement in education and the strong community at Queen Creek Elementary. Events like this help create meaningful connections that support students both in and out of the classroom.
