Queen Creek High School Freshman Orientation Builds Connection and Confidence

Freshman Orientation

Before the first day of school, Queen Creek High School (QCHS) invites its incoming freshmen for a day filled with relationship building, campus exploration, and fun! Link Crew and QCHS staff organize freshman orientation to introduce new students to the school and its welcoming culture.

Sophomore Brooke Matthews helped with the event and enjoyed giving back. He was once a freshman and wants to help those now in his former position feel comfortable and prepared for high school life. Brooke also emphasized the importance of getting involved. “I always promote our sports because our sports are such a big thing here. And our clubs, because we have so many different clubs and we have clubs for everybody.”

Incoming freshman Lilly Parechanian shared how the event helped ease her transition into high school. Orientation allowed her to become more familiar with the campus and meet new people. Lilly stated that orientation is “a lot more fun, a lot more engaging,” compared to a traditional meet-the-teacher night.

Madan Grove, who recently transferred to QCHS, was pleasantly surprised by the experience. “It’s not what I expected at all. But honestly, in ways it’s better. We’re talking to people, meeting people, getting to meet other students and engage in conversation, it’s nice.”

Rick Payne, a QCHS history teacher, shared the goal behind the orientation event. “The goal of orientation is to build a team and give the incoming freshmen some upperclassmen that are mentors. That they can reach out to talk to, get help from.” He added, “We want to try to build a bond between our freshman class. And so this is the start.”

Freshman orientation at QCHS helps students start strong by feeling seen, supported, and excited for the journey ahead.
