In-Person Return to School Details

QCUSD has created a responsible and reasonable Return to School action-plan that provides a safe and positive learning environment with the typical structures and routines that children thrive in. In staying true to our mission, this plan ensures that your student(s) will continue to receive the high-quality learning experiences that you have come to expect from Queen Creek Unified.

Cleaning and Sanitization

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Intensify cleaning and disinfection.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Hand sanitizers near classroom entries.
  • High-touch surfaces sanitized throughout the day.
  • All sites will be cleaned on a scheduled basis with electrostatic disinfecting machines.
  • Clorox Wipes have been ordered for each school by the case.
  • Playground equipment will continue to have regularly scheduled disinfecting.

PPE/Health & Safety

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Intensify ventilation.
  • Promote healthy hygiene practices such as hand washing and wearing a cloth face covering, as feasible.
  • Encourage anyone who is sick to stay home.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Students, staff, and visitors must wear face coverings on campus.
  • Facial coverings have been ordered to support our community on an as needed basis.
  • Clear face shields have been ordered to support staff members who need to work in close proximity with students and desire to have a face shield.
  • Secure lobbies provide an area for protection when visitors arrive on campus.
  • Parents are responsible for determining their child’s health status before arriving at school.
  • Parents are responsible for keeping their child at home should they present with any symptoms of illness.
  • Staff will visually screen for symptoms of illness.
  • Any student or staff member exhibiting signs of illness must stay home.
  • Hallways will be marked to clearly separate traffic in each direction.
  • QCUSD has opened up our HVAC system to pull in a maximized amount of outside air.
  • QCUSD continues to change its air filters on a scheduled quarterly basis.

Physical distancing & Contact Limiting

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Encourage physical distancing through increased spacing, small groups, and limited mixing between groups, if feasible.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Minimize the number of students in common areas.
  • Minimize the number of students in common areas by having procedures in place for arrival and dismissal
  • Limit volunteers/visitors on campus.
  • Limit the number of students on the playground.
  • Procedures in place for hallways - provide physical guides such as directional tape.
  • Physical distance markers at cafeteria points of sale and front office.
  • Temporary staffing for supervision to support procedure that promote physical distancing
  • Limit the number of students in the cafeteria/gym/courtyard. Add additional lunch periods and/or utilize additional spaces to enhance physical distancing.
  • Implement a block schedule to reduce mixing of students and limit contact between students and staff each day.
  • Arrange seating to allow for physical distancing as feasible and desks face the same direction.
  • Postpone large gathering events
    • Limit number of students
    • Explore virtual opportunities
  • Sporting Events
    • Fans encouraged to limit contact with non family members in the stands/seats.

Training

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Train all employees on health and safety protocols.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Train all employees on health and safety protocols *mandatory COVID safety videos.
  • Educate staff and families about when they/their child(ren) should stay home and when they can return to school.

  • Staff members will educate and remind students to practice physical distancing as feasible.

Signage

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Promote healthy hygiene practices such as hand washing and wearing a cloth face covering, as feasible.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Post signage displaying hygiene and sanitation best practice reminders.

Communication

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Regularly communicate and monitor developments with local authorities, employees, and families regarding cases, exposures, and updates to policies and procedures.

Transportation

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Clean and disinfect frequently.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Bus drivers will be given Personal Protection Equipment to wear while interacting with students.
  • Buses will have signs posted by their doors reminding students that if they have symptoms they should not be riding the bus.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available as students enter and exit the bus.
  • The bus will be loaded from back to front, and the bus will be unloaded from front to back.
  • Students will be assigned a seat and siblings will be expected to sit next to each other.
  • Air conditioning will be in a mode where air is not recirculated.
  • Windows may be open for increased air circulation when temperatures allow.
  • Students are encouraged to wait at bus stops in their parents car if possible.
  • Parent transportation to and from school is a parent choice. If a parent decides to use this option please be patient as we expect drop-off and pick-up lines to be lengthy at the beginning of the year.
  • Cabin air filters on every bus will be cleaned and sanitized through our preventive maintenance program.
  • Transportation employees will be required to wash their hands before going on a route and upon return from the route.
  • Buses will be cleaned after the morning route through electrostatic disinfection and after the evening route in a similar manner.
  • Buses will be equipped with cleaning supplies for use during transport of students if needed.

Food and Nutrition

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Use disposable food service items (i.e., utensils, dishes). If disposable items are not feasible or desirable, ensure that all non-disposable food service items are handled with gloves and washed with dish soap and hot water or in a dishwasher. Individuals should wash their hands after removing their gloves or after directly handling used food service items.
  • Avoid sharing food and utensils.

QCUSD Precautionary Measures:

  • Food and nutrition employees will be given PPE to wear while preparing food and interacting with students.
  • Lunches will be separated by grade level at the elementary level. At the secondary level extra lunch periods are being added to reduce students in each lunch period.
  • Students will be directed to use proper hand washing, or hand sanitizer, prior to going to lunch and when leaving the lunch room.
  • Self-serve items that are not individually served will be eliminated.
  • The quantity of point of sales will be increased when possible to reduce lines.
  • Food service staff and cafeteria monitors will closely enforce our no sharing of food items practice.

Educational services

Considerations/Recommendations:

  • Provide on-line learning opportunities
  • Pursue virtual group events, gatherings, or meetings, if feasible.
  • Pursue virtual activities and events, as possible.

  • Online learning solution available for K–12

    • Postpone overnight/out-of-state field trips.
    • Optional local field trips.
