However, transportation will only be provided to students who attend their boundary school. If you choose to attend a school outside your boundary area, please visit the Open Enrollment page to fill out an open enrollment application.

Dear QCUSD Parents and Guardians,

On January 9, 2018, the Queen Creek Unified School District Governing Board approved the following boundary changes impacting the middle schools in QCUSD beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.

  1. All students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who are in the Gateway Polytechnic Academy (Mesa) attendance boundaries will now attend Queen Creek Middle School. Transportation will be provided. Starting in the 2018-2019 school year, GPA will serve grades Pre-K through 5.
  2. Students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade next year residing in Ocotillo Landing, Town Center Apartments, Encantada Apartments, Queen Creek Plaza and the Indigo Trails neighborhood will attend Queen Creek Middle School.
  3. Students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade next year residing in La Sentiero and the Villages at Queen Creek will attend Newell Barney Middle School.

In summary, the following elementary school students will feed into the following middle schools beginning July 2018:

Gateway Polytechnic Academy, Jack Barnes Elementary School, Faith Mather Sossaman Elementary School (new elementary school located near 226th and Ocotillo in the William Lyon Homes Meridian subdivision) = Queen Creek Middle School

Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary, Desert Mountain Elementary, Queen Creek Elementary = Newell Barney Middle School

You may view maps of the approved boundaries below.

If your child(ren) will be attending your neighborhood school (the school within your boundaries based on your home address), there is no need to complete any additional paperwork. Your child(ren)’s enrollment information and records from your current school will be transferred to the appropriate school, unless we receive an open enrollment application to stay at your current school.

In an attempt to be flexible during the growth in QCUSD, families have the option to open enroll at either middle school pending space or program capacity. However, transportation will only be provided to students who attend their neighborhood school within designated boundaries based on home address. If you choose to attend a school outside your boundary area, please visit the Open Enrollment page to fill out an open enrollment application. Again, you only need to fill out an open enrollment application if your child(ren) will not be attending the school within your boundaries based on your home address.

Since both middle schools will be affected by these changes, the schools will be holding a future student night. Students who are entering 6th grade, and those future 7th and 8th grade students at both middle schools who are affected by boundary changes will have the opportunity to tour the campus, meet the staff, and see the wonderful activities available at each site.

Newell Barney Middle School invites students and their families to come and tour the campus and learn about the programs they offer on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Queen Creek Middle School invites students and their families to come and tour the campus and learn about the programs they offer on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

If you are unable to attend these upcoming parent nights, you can call the middle schools to set up an individual tour.

Look for future communication from the principal of your neighborhood middle school. These communications will have more detailed information and a timeline for registration and other important dates.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s assigned middle school based on your home address. Front office staff can assist you.

  • Queen Creek Middle School (480) 987.5940
  • Newell Barney Middle School (480) 474.6700

Once again, if you reside in an area affected by the attendance zone changes, but wish to have your student continue to attend their current school, they will be able to do so if there is space at the school and in the programs they need. Please note that district transportation will only be provided to students within the assigned attendance zones.

Thank you for being part of the Queen Creek Unified School District.
