Freshman English uses
the 9th grade Arizona State Standards as a curriculum. The language
standards are broken down into the areas of reading and writing. A
comprehensive list of the standards can be viewed on the Arizona Board of
Education web site or you can request a copy from the school. A comprehensive
final is given at the end of each semester.
&
The AIMS Reading 9 course is designed to immerse
students in the study and fine-tuning of reading and writing skills pertinent
to the Arizona AIMS test. Major areas of
study include multiple forms of discourse which focus on the six traits of
writing through the preparation of various styles and types of documents
including essays and research papers. In
addition, there will be a focus on various forms of literature and an emphasis
on critical analysis and comprehension skills.
Emphasis is also placed on oral assignments and communication. There is
also a high concentration of vocabulary study.
This class may require time outside of school to be spent on homework.
Grading System: Semester points are cumulative and will be assessed on all
essays and other classroom assignments and activities. Late work is not
accepted. Extra credit cannot be used to replace classroom assignments and is
only given on a case by case basis. Please let the teacher know ahead of time
if you are going to be absent.
Grading Scale: A=100-90%; B=89-80%;
C=79-70%; D=69-60%; F=59%-0%
