Ř      Description:    Grade 11                     1 year                          1 credit

Ř      Prerequisite:   Successful completion of 10th grade English

 

Ř      Major areas of study include multiple forms of discourse which focus on the refinement of the six traits of writing through the preparation of expressive, expository, functional, persuasive, literary analysis, and research documents.  In addition, there will be a focus on the novel, short stories and poetry with emphasis on the critical analysis of the genres and characteristics of tim

 

Ř      e period American literature.  Emphasis is also placed on oral assignments and communication.  This class includes regular homework assignments, a concentration of vocabulary, as well as outside reading and research projects.

 

Ř      Course Objectives/Competencies:  The English Department at Queen Creek High School uses the Arizona State Standards as a curriculum.  The language standards are broken down into the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking, viewing and presenting, and technology.  A comprehensive list of the standards can be viewed on the Arizona Board of Education web site or you can request a copy from the school.   A comprehensive final is given at the end of each semester.

 

Ř      Attendance: Since full and active participation is essential to success in this course, full attendance is required.  School Policy will be strictly adhered to regarding tardies and unexcused absences.

 

Ř      Grading:  Current grades will be reviewed or handed out in class periodically.  Grades are based on the following point scale that is weighted categorically.  The student’s grade is cumulative for the semester. Late work is only accepted for 50% credit and must be turned in no more than ONE day late. All other late work will not be accepted – please submit assignments online when absences are unavoidable.

 

Ř      Grading Scale:             A=100-90%, B=89-80%, C=79-70%, D=69-60%. F=59-0%

 

Ř      All grades are viewable on Snapgrades at https://snapgrades.net.  Grades will be updated once a week by the teacher and parents are encouraged to monitor the progress of their students.  Please check Snapgrades before contacted the teacher in regards to a grade.

 

Ř      Behavior Plan:

o       1st Step— Verbal Warning

o       2nd Step—Next verbal warning and documentation; possible detention

o       3rd Step—Final warning and a call to parent; Referral to administration

 

Ř      ID’S: Students must wear their ID’s at all times while on the QCHS campus.  Any student not wearing their ID in class will be subject to consequences set forth by the Administration.
