Materials:
The Language of Literature: American Literature. Evanston: McDougal-Littell, 2002. Supplemental Materials: Outside reading of novels and nonfiction as suggested by the Recommended Reading List for high school students.
Course Objective/Competencies: The English Department at Queen Creek High School uses the Arizona State Standards as a curriculum. The language standards are broken down into the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking, viewing and presenting, and technology. A comprehensive list of the standards can be viewed on the Arizona Board of Education web site or you can view a copy in your student’s classroom. A comprehensive final is given at the end of each semester.
Attendance: Since full and active participation is essential for success in this course, regular attendance is required. School Policy will be strictly adhered to regarding tardies and unexcused absences.
Grading: Semester Points are cumulative and will be assessed on all essays and other classroom assignments and activities. Late work is not accepted; please submit assignments on-line when absences are unavoidable.
Grading Scale:A=100-90%; B= 89-80%; C= 79-70%; D=69-60%; F=59%
Behavior Plan:
