Course Objectives/Competencies:
In the English courses, emphasis
is placed on vocabulary, reading and writing for communication. Grammar,

Students prepare to take the Aims test. On-Line reading and listening programs
are utilized to enrich learning.
Arizona State Standards are utilized in lesson planning.
.
Course Description:
The SEI/ ELD classroom is designed
to optimize the acquisition of English by students whose first language is
something other than English.
Students must pass the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment
(AZELLA) in order to exit from the program. A maximum of four hours of English
classes are required for beginners.
As students become proficient in different components of the test such as
reading, writing, listening and speaking, they may exit out of one or more hours
of ELD classes and be enrolled in mainstream classes. English must be spoken in
the classroom.
Grading System:
Grades are based on a point
scale. All assignments are given a
certain amount of points. The
student’s goal is to get as many points as possible by turning in quality work
and by doing well on tests. Grades
are cumulative from the beginning of the semester until the end of the
semester. Grade sheets will be
distributed periodically.
Late Work Policy:
Students are expected to turn work
in on time. Points will be
subtracted for late work.
Absences:
Regular attencance is
important. In case of
absence, the student has the same number of days to make up missing work
Classroom Management Plan:
Students are expected to behave
like responsible, respectful ladies and gentlemen. Classroom disruptions will not be
tolerated. All English Language
Students are expected to use English in the classroom and part of their grade
will reflect this effort on their part.
See attached sheets on student expectations and
consequences.
ID Badges:
Students must wear ID badges at
all times while at QCHS.
Disciplinary action if badges are not worn.
Movie/Film Policy:
A movie consent form will be sent
home home for movies other than G rated.
See consent form attached.
Food:
No candy, gum or sodas are allowed
in the classroom. Students may eat
non-messy crackers, granola bars during breaks only. Bottled water is allowed.
