Textbook/ Workbook used:  Arizona State Drivers Manual, Drive Right textbook and workbook.  (Prentice Hall – Publisher; Tenth Edition, copyright 2002.)

 

Course Materials: Paper, pen and pencil, and the school planner should be brought daily to class.  A highlighter is sometimes helpful but not required.

Course Description:

 

& The Driver’s  Education Class is designed to help beginning drivers develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become  safe, low-risk, responsible drivers.

 

Grading System:  Grades will be determined by cumulative points with a letter grade assigned to percentages.

· A = 90% and up

· B = 80% and up

· C = 70% and up

· D = 60 % and up

· F = 59% and lower

Assignments and homework make up approximately 65% of the quarter grade and tests and quizzes make up the remaining 35%.  You may check your child’s grade and assignment completion by going to snapgrades.net.  I will be sending home a temporary password for your child to use to create your own login.  You may check homework on this sight as well. 

 

Semester Grade:

 

· 40% 1st quarter

· 40% 2nd quarter

· 20% Final Exam

 

Classroom Management Plan:  Students are expected to: 

 

· Be on time and be prepared.

· Respect people and property.

· Follow directions.

· Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

· Follow all school rules.

 

Consequences:

· Warning/conference with parents/guardians

· Notification of parent/guardian

· Conference with parent/guardian

· Written referral

 

Rewards:

· Praise (daily)

· Positive notes home (random)

· Grade certificate (quarterly)

· Movie or snack rewards occasionally through the semester

 

Attendance:  If students miss more than 9 days in the semester they may lose credit.  All excused absences will have an adequate amount of time to turn in make-up work.  Make-up work for unexcused absences will be accepted as late work and be worth 50% credit.  Tests must be made up before the next test is given to receive credit.  Tests will be given approximately every other Friday.

 

Miscellaneous:

· Seats will be assigned for classroom maintenance and attendance procedures, and are subject to change at any time.

· One free pass (restroom, phone, etc.) is given to the student for unexpected emergency use each quarter.  Unused passes may be redeemed for extra credit.

· We may have guest speakers with graphic presentations  or movies of a more violent nature (car crash victims).  If the student needs to leave the room they are always allowed to do so.
