Title I Program |

About Title I ….. Title I is a federally funded program for elementary and secondary education in the nation. Recently re-authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I funding helps local school divisions provide equal educational opportunities for low-performing students in schools with economic need. The goal of Title I is to enable all students to be on grade level in reading, and to meet state and local literacy standards. The Title I Reading Program at Queen Creek Elementary serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The type of support provided to students varies slightly depending on the grade level. In Kindergarten, our Title I Program includes instructional assistants who go into the classroom to provide additional help to qualified students at the direction of the classroom teacher. Students in 1st through 4th grades who qualify for assistance participate in a supplemental intervention curriculum instructed in a small group pull out program for 30 minutes daily. To determine eligible students for Title I assistance, the school uses criteria such as: · Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills Assessment (D.I.B.E.L.S.) · Terra Nova or AIMS Test Scores from the previous spring · Teacher Recommendation with accompanying scores from the STAR reading scores, Houghton-Mifflin Basal Reading Series Tests, or The Classroom Reading Inventory Queen Creek Elementary Title I is committed to the shared effort of closing the achievement gap between all students in Queen Creek Elementary and to providing high quality, engaging instruction that will motivate students to become lifelong learners. Parents also play an important role in TitleI. They are encouraged to participate in their child’s education by reading to their child, as well as attending conferences and family nights sponsored by the school or the Title I program. |
