My name is Hallie Jones and I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade at QCE! Just to tell you a little about myself… I graduated from NAU (GO LUMBERJACKS) with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education. I was born in Long Beach, California; however, I was raised in the BEAUTIFUL state of Arizona. I love being outdoors, spending time with my family/friends and playing/watching sports. I am looking forward to a fantastic year! Please stop by to say hello and introduce yourself! Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns and/or ideas. You can reach me at:  480-987-5920.

Expectations:

I expect every child to take full responsibility for his/her learning and behavior.

I expect every child to contribute to our classroom community with a positive attitude.

I expect every child to come to school prepared and willing to learn.

I expect every child to push themselves to excellence and not be satisfied with doing less than his/her best.

I expect every child to support and help one another.

 Philosophy of Education:

I believe ALL children can learn! Each child learns differently in his/her own unique way. I believe in using a variety of instructional methods and materials combined with relevant and meaningful activities to promote an interest in learning.

Our classroom will be a place filled with successful opportunities which will encourage ALL students to develop a love of learning. Our classroom will be a safe place where no one will have a fear of failure.

I hope to make a difference in every student’s life and celebrate their learning and successes.

Absences and Make- Up Assignments:

It is very important that your child attends school each day.  When children are absent or tardy they miss the teacher directed instruction that is important to mastering new concepts.  However, please do not send your child to school if he or she has a fever or is showing signs of illness.

Please call the office before school if your child is going to be absent.  If your child is absent more then two days, please let the office know that you would like to pick up missed assignments.  They will notify me and I will have the work ready for you when you come!

Grading:

·          I expect a lot from my students. I believe it is in their best interests to learn to take responsibility for their own learning. The grades they earn are entirely within their own control.

·          Grades will consist of a combination of class work, homework, tests, and participation.

·          Each assignment that is completed for a grade will be returned with the points earned and the points possible at the top of the page.

·           Late work will not receive full credit, unless due to an excused absence

Birthdays:

If your child would like to celebrate his/her birthday by bringing in a treat to share with the class, please let me know prior to that day.  We have some students with summer birthdays so I will space them out across the year so those students can celebrate a very special “unbirthday”!  I will give you a week time frame so you can send in treats if you would like! (It is purely optional).

Star Student:

Each week a “Student of the Week” will be chosen from our classroom.  This child can bring a poster (I will provide the poster board) that tells about his/her self. They can tell about their family, pets, favorite hobbies, favorite foods, memorable moments, or anything they can think of.  They can put pictures, stickers, drawings, or anything else on their poster… be creative as you would like!

Classroom Treats:

Our school policy states that all treats brought into the classroom to be shared with the class must be pre-packaged and store bought! Sorry… No homemade goods!

Transportation:

Your child has been assigned a specific bus and a specific place to get on and off the bus each day. If your child needs to ride a different bus or needs to get off the bus at a different stop, you must notify the school office by phone or send a note to me. If you choose to send a note please include the date, bus number, place where your child is to get off the bus, and your signature. If your child normally rides the bus and you wish to pick him/her up after school please call the school or send note.

Communication:

Communication is essential for a successful classroom. To facilitate this, I will send home notes and make phone calls as needed. Keep in mind that email can be an excellent way to communicate. I believe that communication between school and home is necessary for a positive experience… So please do not hesitate to contact me.

The class rules are:

Be RESPECTFUL of yourself, others, and property.

Keep hands and feet to yourself.

NO BULLYING

Follow directions the first time asked.

Work hard and HAVE FUN!!

If a student chooses to break a rule, these are the consequences:

1st offense:  Stay on green- Verbal warning

2nd offense: Change card to yellow- Miss 10 min. of recess

3rd offense: Change card to orange- Miss whole recess

4th offense: Change card to red- Note/Phone call home

**In cases of severe disruption or harmful behavior, steps may be skipped and principal may be consulted.

To assist students in following classroom rules, I reinforce appropriate behavior by rewarding good citizens, providing individual & class incentives, giving positive comments, making positive phone calls home, and encouraging all students to do his or her best!

Thank you for taking time to lay the foundation for a successful school year. I truly appreciate your support. When we work together it really makes a difference.
