Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and is expected to be returned the following day completed.  Your child will receive a sheet each Monday detailing what assignment should be completed for each day.  Assignments for homework will include writing spelling words, math workbook pages, AR reading, and Metra read alouds.  Parent participation with their child during homework time is encouraged.  If homework is not returned to school the day after it was assigned, your child will be asked to place a stick in his/her behavior pocket and will owe five minutes of his/her recess that day.  Repeatedly missing homework assignments will be addressed with the parents.

Discipline Policy

Students will be asked to follow our classroom rules in order to make our classroom a fun, safe learning environment.  Check your child’s calendar in his/her homework folder to see if he/she has been helping to make our classroom environment the best that it can be!

Positive Reinforcement

Consequences

If a student chooses to not follow a rule, he/she will first receive a verbal warning (with the exception being if the child has repeatedly in the past not followed this particular rule or intentionally hurt another child).  If the student continues to make a poor choice and continue with the behavior after receiving the warning, he/she will be asked to place a stick in his/her behavior pocket.  Each stick that the student earns will result in a loss of 5 minutes of his/her recess time.  If the behavior is severe in nature, the child may be sent up to the Principal’s office and/or a note or phone call home will be made.  Acquiring a stick at any time during the month will result in a loss of being able to choose from the classroom treasure box.

Students following our classroom rules will be rewarded.  Students seen following our rules will receive Happy Grams, stickers, special privileges, praise, and treasure box.  In addition, students in our classroom who follow our rules and make our learning environment a fun, safe place have a chance to be chosen as our Student of the Month.  A trip to the treasure box will be earned on the last day of every month when a student has received a green dot on his/her calendar for good behavior every day of a given month.  Happy Gram winners (two students per week) will be announced on every Monday morning.
