Executive PTO Meeting
Tuesday, January 9, 2007 8:30 a.m.
Board Members Present : Patty Campbell, Sheryl Grothe, Quincy Nelson, Kris Wells, Teresa McQuade, Mary Elrod, Sharon Erwin, Kristen Dawson, and Principal Bill Schultz
Agenda:
- Kristen Dawson Cold Stone Spirit Night, Box Tops
- Patty Campbell Spring Walk-a-Thon
- Sheryl Grothe Scholastic Book Workshop
Meeting:
1. Kristen reported that the Cold Stone Creamery Spirit Night will be held January 24, 2007 from 3:00-9:00 PM . Kristen will check with Cold Stone to see if they will supply an ice cream cake for the class with the most participation. She will also check to see if a PTO member needs to be present during the Spirit Night. Quincy to include info in the Jan. Newsletter as well as flyers for the week of.
2. Box Tops We will be holding a contest between now and March 9 th to see which class brings in the most box tops/labels. Quincy to include info in the Jan. Newsletter.
3. Spring Walk-a-Thon Quincy will revise flyers that Patty and Sharon created. It was decided that we will also have baskets to raffle off as a fundraiser. Sheryl & Quincy will be in charge of this and will get with each class to decide on a theme. PTO Board Members will go to community businesses to ask for sponsorship. Kris will go to Safeway, Bashas, Albertsons, and Walgreens. Patty and Mary will go to the Downtown QC area and the Pork Shop. Sharon will go to Personalities Salon and Chatterbox. February 12 th sponsor sheets are due. February 19 th orders to trinity are due for t-shirts.
4. Sheryl reported that DME has been asked to host a workshop for Scholastic Books on 1/31/07 . As a result, they will reward us with $200 in books for our library.
5. General Meeting will be held this evening at 6:00 in the music room.

Meeting:
- Treasurer's Report Teresa reported that we earned $518.40 from the Santa Pictures. We have collected $100 in donations. We currently have $13,000 in our bank account. We will be receiving $713 for box tops and $400 from Barro's (from the Dec. Spirit Night). Our real balance is $2,800. Please see attached spread sheet.
- Teacher Requests None were made
- Photo Holders for Santa Pictures 2007 Kris Wells requested that we purchase 1,000 holders for 2007. The cost is $18.85/unit. Sharon motioned that we purchase, Becky Clark 2 nd the motion. Board approved the purchase.
- Scholastic Book Workshop at DME 1/31/07 Sheryl reported that we have been asked to host the workshop and will receive $200 in books for our library. 25 Schools have been invited to the workshop.
- Spirit Night Kristen reported that we will be holding a Cold Stone Spirit Night on 1/24/07 from 3-9 p.m. 20% of all profits will go to DME . Quincy will put the info in the Jan. Newsletter and will distribute flyers to the students on 1/22 and 1/24.
- Spring Walk a-Thon Concerns were raised by board members that we were holding a fundraiser when we had previously communicated that we would not be doing any fundraising other than the Fall Fundraiser. Concern was that parents were going to be asked for more $$. It was decided that we would communicate to parents that we did not reach our goal from the Fall Fundraiser and we are hoping to reach our goal with this event. A concern was also brought up that each student should receive a t-shirt for their participation regardless of their $$ contributions. It was decided that each student would receive a shirt. All non-students will need to purchase a t-shirt in the amt. of $10 and must be pre-ordered. Patty Campbell motioned that we would hold the Spring Walk-a-Thon under these conditions and Sharon Erwin 2 nd the motion. All other members present voted in favor. Kris Wells motioned that we spend up to $260 on necklaces for the walkers. Sheryl 2 nd the motion and the members voted in favor. Quincy and Sheryl will be in charge of the silent auction/raffle.
- 100 th Day Balloon Launch It was discussed whether or not the PTO was responsible for paying for the balloon launch on the 100 th day celebration. We need 600 balloons and helium. Quincy motioned that if Student Council or Mr. Schultz was not able to pay for the balloons, the PTO would pay up to $100. Sheryl 2 nd the motion and members voted in favor. Kris Wells will talk to Mr. Schultz regarding this matter and purchase balloons if necessary. It was decided that we need as much participation as possible from Board Members to help with this day (blowing up balloons, etc).

Addendum to January 2007 Meeting Minutes
1 . As of January 19, 2007 , the Desert Mountain Elementary PTO board has voted to postpone the Walk-a-Thon event until further notice.
2. PTO meeting times have changed to the following: (Beginning February 6, 2007 )

General session the 2 nd Tues of each month at 6p.m.
