My job as an elementary school counselor includes a variety of guidance and consultative services. Services include individual/small group counseling for children of all grade levels. Group discussion topics include friendship, self-esteem, social skills, anger management, feelings, changes in the family, and behavior modification. Classroom guidance lessons on Character Counts! Students learn how to be a person of character through classroom guidance lessons. The pillars of character include Respect, Caring, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Fairness, and Citizenship. 5th Grade Peer Mediation Program: The 5th grade peer mediators learn to resolve conflicts between students on the playground, using the five steps of the peer mediation peace bridge. They help students to solve problems, or help students to find friends to play with at recess time. Parenting Classes: This year we are offering parenting classes from Active Parenting Now. These classes are appropriate for parents of children ages 5-12. The program entails 3 sessions in the evening. Classes are offered in the fall and spring so check the schedule to see when the next class begins! Mrs. Janes |
