LET’S LEARN TO TALK BETTER !!

GENERAL IDEAS FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD TALK BETTER:

1.         Tell the child ahead  (one day at least) that you are now going to expect him to ask for things before he gets them.  If he is not talking at all , then start with only the first sound of the word.

 

2.Start with only ten to fifteen minutes each day.  Require ‘talking’ during that time.  Praise exuberantly for anything close to the first sound or word!!!  After two weeks, then go to 20 min.,  then 30 min. etc.

 

3.Be consistent!!  It’s so easy to give in.  But remember ,you either pay now or pay later.  It’s easier to pay now, believe me.  I’ve done it both ways.

 

4.  Use all of the five senses when you help your child with speech.  Use props such as toys, animals, foods, etc.  Be creative.

 

 

 

 

Remember kids are literal.  Praise a lot.  Be matter of fact about mistakes. 

Always reassure them that you love them, but they need to talk to be understood.
