Nurse’s Station Arizona is one of the states listed that has widespread H1N1 flu. It is recommended that children 6 months - 18 years be vaccinated and especially children with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular, or other chronic medical conditions. Check with your doctor or health care provider concerning the availability of the vaccine. Also, please let us know if your child is diagnosed with the H1N1 flu and keep them home from school until their symptoms are completely gone. If they have a fever, they should be fever free without the use of medication for 24 hours before returning to school. We have started hearing and vision screening on all children in K - 2 grade. If you do receive a referral, please let us know the outcome when they are evaluated. Please call the health office at 987-7424 if you have any questions or concerns. Title One Tidbits Happy Fall! The weather has chilled, the break has come and gone and we are heading quickly toward the holiday season. Many teachers send home book orders from Scholastic and this is a great way to stock up for the holiday season. I was looking through a kindergarten book order and they have The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats for $1! What a bargain. We have been working hard with the children this quarter. Students are working on sight words (continually), reading a variety of books, doing vocabulary activities and practicing fluency skills. We have been focusing on questioning strategies and comprehension skills too. The first week of December we will be doing our winter DIBELS benchmark assessments. This will give us an idea how all the children in grades K-3 are progressing. This is a link to another article on www.readingrockets.org for you to enjoy. 103 Things To Do Before/During/After Reading http://www.readingrockets.org/article/82 Remember to keep reading together! ELD ELD students are anxiously engage learning about seasons and weather this month. We will have the opportunity to explore interesting literature for every season of the year. A few examples of selected reading titles are “Leaf Man”, “Red Leaf Yellow Leaf” and “Snowballs” written and illustrated by Lois Ehlert. As for Grammar students are doing an excellent job identifying nouns, verbs, and prepositions. Also, students are working hard in mastering the writing process, I am proud of each of them! Thank you to Edible Arrangements for providing a delicious arrangement to our school. Each month, the students of the month are entered into a drawing. One lucky student is the recipient of an Edible Arrangement. |
