Kind-Hearted Kindergarten

Kindergarten has been very busy this week after our 2 week break.  On Monday and Tuesday, the QC fire department came to our school and presented a fire safety assembly.  The children got to see all the tools and where they are kept on the fire truck, watched a fire safety video and went in the training Edith trailer to learn how to escape from a room with a fire.  The firefighters taught us how to make an emergency plan for our house and told us to find two exits from each room.  We are also supposed to make a meeting place outside where the whole family will meet.

We have also been very busy learning about our skeletons, bats and pumpkins.

Fantastic First Grade

Each year, Monarch butterflies journey approximately 3,000 miles.  This year, the 1st graders are tracking this journey and created their own butterflies to migrate to Mexico.

As part of  the Journey North project, students all across the United States and Canada create butterflies and send them to Mexico to be ‘taken care’ of through the winter.

Last year  3,086 classrooms made paper butterflies to send.

The butterflies contained messages to the Mexican students, thanking them for taking good care of our butterflies.

The symbolic butterflies serve as a symbol of international cooperation.  The kind that is necessary for the survival of several migratory species.

Through our participation, the students not only learn about the migration, but also about how to protect the monarch’s habitat and the role each country must play to preserve the annual migration.

Super Second Grade -

Second graders are quite the scientists lately. We’ve been studying the weather in Mr. Cosper’s class and in Mrs. Connor’s and Mrs. Cope’s we are experimenting with solids, liquids and gasses. Mrs. Keye’s second graders are exploring the human body and all its bones. In Social Studies Mrs. Murphy’s class is going back in time to the thirteen colonies and Revolutionary America. Yes, our Second graders are very busy learning subjects from Native American cultures to double digit addition. We also really enjoyed the nitrogen experiments this week and the nitrogen ice cream. It was very cool. Thank you to Mr. Cosper for arranging that show.

Thrilling Third Grade

The learning never stops in third grade and these Mustangs are moving along at a steady pace.  As the days become cooler and the nights become shorter this time of year we begin to notice many families pre-occupied with the holidays and family activities.  Please remember the importance of scheduling time for homework.  Multiplication is right around the corner for third grade which always requires a little extra effort on everyone’s part.  Have a safe Halloween and remember to keep your children home if they have a persistent cough or are running a fever.

Fabulous Fourth Grade

Fall break is over and the fourth grade is back to work. This quarter we want everyone to meet their A.R. goal! Please make sure that your child is reading at least 30 minutes per night. It is imperative that we work together and monitor their reading so they can reach their reading goal. So let's make it happen this quarter and read...read...read!

In other news......last Friday we had a grand old time at the Fall Festival. Thanks to all of you who came out and supported our school. I imagine it was tons of fun to watch Coach, Mr. Cosper, and Mr. Collins get dunked in the dunk tank. If you weren't able to come or you did come, keep in mind to keep working on that throwing arm so you can come out next year and dunk them again!!!
