Text Box: Spelling:  This week’s spelling list will be on words with the “ow” sound.  The words are:  town, house, sour, frown, cow, clown, found, how, mouse, brown, could and should.  The bonus words are: around and towel.  Students who  score 100% on Monday will be on the challenge list this week only.  There is a practice test on Thursday, and the final test is on Friday.
 
 Reading:  We will be reading Big Bushy Mustache.  We will discuss topic, main idea, details, and dictionary skills.  The vocabulary words for this week are:  bushy, costume, disguise, handText Box: some, mustache, and mirror. 
Math:  We will continue with Chapter 5:  Two-digit addition.  We will add with and without regrouping.  We will be writing the problems and adding money.  We do math facts daily.  The students have 1 minute to complete 30 problems.  The should be at the facts of 4 by the end of November to meet expectations on the report card.

Writing:  We will be changing our class book to a different topic.  We will begin again this week and will complete it in the short week next week.  The final copy will be Text Box: available for purchase as a hard cover book.  More information will come soon.  I have a sample in my class from one I did when I taught first grade.

Text Box: Social Studies/Computers
Text Box: 	We will begin talking about communities, the constitution, citizenship and government.  This will be the beginning also for the kids to prepare for the music program on February 10th.  The theme is patriotism.


Text Box: 	In Computers, we will use the internet to research a state of the student’s choice.  They will use this information to create a brochure about the state for writing.  Students are given the last 15-20 minutes of computers each week to catch up on AR tests.  Everyone must sign up for a test each week to reach their AR goals.
