Welcome to Third Grade! Welcome to my class. I’m looking forward to working with you and your child this year. We have many fun and educational activities planned. You’ll be hearing a lot about them in the weeks ahead. Third grade is a time of transformation where students begin to apply their reading and writing skills in creative and thoughtful response. Students are now ready to begin cursive writing, multiplication, fractions, and even some decimals! To help ensure that your child begins the year on positive footing, please take some time to review the Student Handbook together. There you will find the answer to many questions you may already have. Third graders are assigned homework every night; however we try very hard to keep Fridays free. Homework consists of spelling and vocabulary practice and math practice. Work not completed in class is assigned for home as well. Third graders can expect to work about 30 minutes each night. If you find that your child is consistently working for longer periods, please contact me. Third grade is a great place to be and I am very excited to be a part of the third grade team. Classroom Expectations and Discipline Students are expected to come to school prepared to learn everyday. Homework assignments should be completed in full with parent’s initials in student agendas. A healthy learning environment will include: · Use of kind words and actions · Be a good listener · Respect of self, others, and school property · Raise your hand before speaking · Work quietly · Contribute to all group activities · Accept responsibility for your work and behavior Most misbehavior will be handled effectively in the classroom. Initially students will be asked to work away from the group for a period of time to collect their thoughts and get back on track. If the misbehavior continues the offending student will, in the following order; · Lose recess · Note or phone call to parent · Removal from class · Visit to the principal Third grade is an exciting time. Most students love to learn and have no trouble sharing, learning, and growing in the classroom. Thank you for your continued support of the learning experience. |
